About the role

The Media and Travel Trade Familiarisations Specialist is a permanent position within the Commercial and Partnerships Group. It is responsible for designing, planning, and coordinating activities and experiences for travel trade partners, media, and influencers visiting Queensland. Their goal is to generate positive publicity, sales, and engagement that promote Queensland as a destination of choice.

The aim of the Media and Travel Trade Familiarisation (Famils) team is to deliver experiential and motivational itineraries that are aligned to TEQ’s target markets, marketing messaging and brand objectives. To ensure that the outcomes of all visits are delivering a demonstrable return on investment, the business, publicity or commentary generated will reinforce all TEQ’s annual marketing activities and objectives. This is achieved by working in partnership with TEQ international offices and TEQ internal teams, Regional Tourism Organisations (RTO’s), Tourism Australia (TA) and industry partners.

Key duties

• Design and coordinate famil experiences that promote Queensland’s brand and destination messages for TEQ, Tourism Australia (TA), and media partners.

• Select destinations and experiences based on market research and stakeholder input to align with strategic objectives.

• Build and maintain strong industry relationships with tourism operators, government bodies, PR agencies, and internal teams to support famil program delivery.

• Develop tailored itineraries and story angles that match media and travel trade audiences that showcase relevant products to targeted markets.

• Manage famil logistics and budgets, including bookings, payments, risk governance, and financial reconciliations in line with business policies.

• Track famil effectiveness and maintain databases, preparing reports and documentation for stakeholders and participants.

Desired Skills and Experience

For this role, we will consider your:

• Strong knowledge of Queensland destinations and tourism products, with deep understanding of consumer travel trends across domestic and international markets.

• Proven experience designing and hosting Famils, including tailoring story angles to meet marketing objectives.

• Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate, negotiate, and influence partners to achieve strategic outcomes.

• Highly organised project management capabilities, with a track record of managing multiple programs under tight deadlines.

• Sharp attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring high-quality famil delivery and refinement.

• Confident public hosting and representation skills, including escorting Famils and attending industry events as required.
